My notes:

  • Past century return of having a house: no [real] change return.  Effectively with maintenance and repairs, unless you like the house, the return is negative.  It’s a money losing position.  It’s a form of forced savings.
  • Good times for booms.  Bonds are up, SP is up, housing prices are up.
  • Financial Markets Course, 2 weeks ago, sign up any time for free. “Coursera”: company involving a number of universities (40k signed up).   Last time 8k w/ certificate and failed 350.  Shorter than lectures at Yale.
  • How jobs are going to look like 50 years fwd?
  • people living longer and earning less (because fat ↓).
  • Plan? Risk management
  • Finance & Insurance is all about facing uncertainty
  • It’s not about beating the market, it’s about managing risks
  • Finance is an important technology: spread a venture with low probability of success among an array of multiple investors.
  • It’s a matter of intelligent risk management, is not a subject of wealth, that emerging markets develop.
  • It’s not the emerging world who’s threatened for cosmopolitan globalization.  It’s rather the ones that live in the 1st world and don’t have a sense of the world, of what’s really going in the rest of the planet.
  • P/E ratio used as valuation as well as we used to use salary for determining a loan paying capacity for individual clients.

Robert Shiller says that generations from now on will have to live managing risks smartly.
Risk Mngt is not about being smart.

In my own view: risk management is taking the instinct of survival and juxtapose it with the capability of choosing within uncertainty. For example look at this approach from Ritholtz: the human brain is not a risk estimator muscle.

Elementos que captaron mi atención:

  • En 1892 quedó como presidente.
  • Diez años despues de la invención de la bombilla el parque central ya tenía iluminación, en ocasión de la toma de posesión de JM como presidente. Por la forma en que lo expresa la presentadora, supongo que se asemeja a lo relativamente rápido que hubieron celulares en Guatemala en comparación al resto de paises en la región.
  • Los masones y el archivo arquidiocesano son igual de cerrados para brindar informacion para hacer investigación histórica.
  • “mormon family search”: un recurso online para explorar los registros civiles digitalizados. Hasta encontré al abuelo de mi papa;  Buena Ventura Enrique Joachin Miranda, hijo de Jose Joachin que se casó con Josefa Miranda, quien si no estoy mal vivió la época durante JMRB.
  • El lema de la compaña de JMRB: “paz, libertad, credito, progreso”.
  • Las elecciones eran orales, las personas indicaban el voto y alguien lo apuntaba. Estos elementos sugieren ciertas ideas a la eleccion de JMRB.
  • Aunque JMRB aparentemente le costó llegar a la presidencia: tuvo que huir del país por hostigamento del presidente predecesor.
  • La razón por la cual Occidente ha tenido mas poder y audacia economica en la historia de Guatemala es porque despues del terremoto de 1700 (sta Marta) los comerciantes no quisieron trasladarse al valle de Guatemala, donde está la ciudad actual, sino que se fueron a Quetzaltenango, donde ya habia algo firme.
  • Es interesante la diferencia ideologica entre los liberales de esa época con los conservadores, y como los primeros eran anticlericales y los otros aparentemente no.  Asi como los libertarios de hoy coinciden con la logica a favor del progreso y un anticlericalismo moderado.

Contra-Glotón

Come como hombre bien educado lo que tienes delante, no te muestres glotón, para no hacerte odioso. (…) A vientre moderado, sueño saludable, se levanta temprano y es dueño de sí. Insomnio, vómitos y cólicos le esperan al hombre insaciable.

La siguiente grafica es el indicador de comportamiento de comida. Es un indicador de cero a cien. Contiene cinco elementos de 20 puntos cada uno. Cada elemento corresponde a una comida del dia (2 refacciones y desayuno, almuerzo y cena).  Si la hago bien, vale 20, si la hago mal, vale cero.

Mientras el indicador se sostenga por arriba de 90 mi cuerpo consume la energia almacenada en inventario. Cuando el indicador esta debajo de 80 mi cuerpo empieza a acumular energia y por lo tanto me pongo gordo aumentando probabilidad de infarto/diabetes/etc.

No estoy haciendo ejercicio para no alterar la demanda de energía, por el momento.

 

Del 15 de Octubre al 26 de noviembre: 9.6 libras. Para evitar un rebote debo mantener mi indicador arriba de 90.

Hoy en la mañana mi esposa no se acabó su desayuno, un omelette con frijoles volteados, se veían exquicitos. Me los ofreció 2 veces. Si los hubiera aceptado el indicador se hubiese caido a 88 porque hoy tambien planeo almozar en la calle con un amigo.

Families have transitions.  That’s when crisis and problems arise while hope and peace tend to diminish.  That change of theme is called “Escathon”: Escatologia en la familia.  Or see this for a lighter version.

 

Ok families change, that’s ridiculously simple.  But what about when your significant other is more of a mistress rather than a partner? A nice a approach (according to me).

 

Who Cares about your family?  Apparently the pope and his staff of bishops.

Parenthood – paternidad – puerperio

If a dog spends ~60 days in the womb and it lives ~9 years tha is a 2% of their lives in gestation.  And if humans spend ~9 months in the womb and live ~65 years [well below G-8 average], then we humans must spend some additional time outside the womb to properly finalize the creation of oneself.  Being outside the womb means that the father is not only the sperm donor but also the immediate reference towards uncertainty right immediately after the child is born.  Protecting the integrity of the mother and child, rather than walking away.

 

In the Torah we see Abraham being called not lead a nation nor to be a warrior, but to be a parent.  Nothing else than a parent.  By this invitation he experiments the trinitary action, i.e. the grace of God.
